“Effective quality work is based on facts and statistics”

Systematic quality work (SKA) aims to ensure the quality of education in Swedish schools. According to the Swedish National Agency for Education’s guidelines, education must be continuously monitored, evaluated, and developed—both at the principal level and within individual schools. To make this work in practice, not only time and expertise are needed, but also access to the right tools. Tietoevry’s comprehensive administration system, Edlevo, provides the necessary support to improve the quality of education.

What is Systematic Quality Work?

According to the Swedish Education Act, systematic quality work (SKA) is based on three central questions: Where are we? Where are we going? and How did it go? Answering these questions requires a structured approach where the organization identifies its challenges, sets goals, implements actions, and evaluates the results. This can involve anything from reducing absenteeism and improving the work environment to ensuring more students achieve passing grades in all subjects. Since effective quality work is based on facts and statistics, access to the right kind of data is a fundamental requirement.

What needs and challenges exist?

Each municipality faces its own challenges in improving education quality. Some struggle with high absenteeism, others with uneven grade distribution or rising costs in specific areas. To get a comprehensive overview, it’s important that relevant data and statistics are easily accessible and can be retrieved from a single system. Another challenge is turning information into insights that lead to appropriate actions. Principals, school leaders, and system administrators therefore seek tools that not only collect and organize data but also present it in a way that enables both proactive and reactive work.

Edlevo – A flexible support for improving quality

Our administration system, Edlevo, helps schools and municipalities analyze and improve operations based on various specific needs. Edlevo enables tracking trends and patterns in everything from grades and absenteeism to payment flows and resource allocation. You can set your own thresholds with different indicators, visualize data in real-time graphs and charts, and quickly identify any deviations.

A concrete example where Edlevo can make a big difference is in our grade analysis tool. Here, school management can quickly and easily retrieve relevant data, monitor student performance over time, detect early warning signs, and take targeted actions based on these insights. The tool also allows comparisons between grades and results on national tests, which is an important indicator for fair and consistent grading aligned with grading criteria and other official guidelines.

To make the information as accessible as possible, it’s presented not only in numbers and tables but also in graphs and trend lines. This allows those responsible for quality work to quickly spot anomalies, such as a sudden increase in absenteeism, declining grades, or rising costs in a specific area. This provides a solid foundation for making decisions based on facts.

Edlevo is continuously adapted

Systematic quality work is complex and requires the right decisions at the right time. We closely follow developments in Swedish education and adapt our tools according to government guidelines and school needs.

Following the motto “simplifying everyday life in schools", Edlevo is developed in close alignment with the challenges schools and municipalities face in their daily efforts to improve education quality.
