Here at Tietoevry we believe that technology by itself rarely proves valuable. Juan Talavera, an Enterprise Architect from Paraguay, shares this approach with his unique blend of technical expertise and strategic insight.

“I am passionate about both technology and business, so it made sense to get a Computer Science degree and an MBA.”

Over the span of 20 years, Juan honed his skills in software architecture design, project management and team leadership, and even worked as a university teacher. Juan's impressive journey includes leading high-impact projects in the telecom industry and guiding teams in the public sector.

People before Technology

Juan’s skills were put to a real test on one particularly difficult project for a telecommunication company in Paraguay.

“I was the technical lead of a team that replaced a 25-year-old OSS/BSS platform at the public telco operator in Paraguay. This legacy solution supported the company's core operations and was interconnected with a wide variety of telecommunication devices, ranging from very old PSTN switches to cutting-edge technology like VOIP and IPTV. The platform also handled billing and payment processing.

While there were significant technical challenges to overcome, I learned that no technical challenge is as tough as the "human aspect" of a change of this magnitude. Changing the way thousands of people have worked for 25 years can undermine the project if not addressed properly with the right set of skills.”

Juan joined Mentormate and Tietoevry Create in 2023 and has since worked with teams on both sides of the Atlantic.

“The most interesting experience I've had so far was leading a team composed of members from Paraguay, Bulgaria, and the US, collaborating with a client who engaged team members from the US and Scotland. This was a technically demanding project in the highly regulated healthcare industry. The diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and time zones presented a unique challenge, and successfully bringing the project to completion was a highly rewarding experience.”

As our team continues to grow, Tietoevry evolves its approach to achieve seamless collaboration. Juan’s experience with a global team highlighted the importance of a unified vision.

“While our diversity is a strength, some degree of standardization is always necessary. Implementing best practices and processes is essential for maintaining service quality and optimizing resources.”

At the same time, Juan sees new opportunities in his role as an Enterprise Architect.

“I see myself actively involved in the early stages of opportunities with key clients. I would play a pivotal role in identifying client needs and priorities, developing our delivery strategy, and leading the effort to ensure that our solutions align with the originally architected vision and adhere to the highest industry standards. Throughout this process, I aim to inspire others to continually learn and strive for higher levels of quality, efficiency, and creativity.”
